Welcome & getting started

1st step today

Hi all, hope your weekend was better than mine. Locked up for drunk & disorderly after scaring my long term friend & confidant. Extremely ashamed of my behaviour, feel like crap!!

This is my first step to realizing, my many & varied problems and knowing I need to get professional help.

Single Dad, 2 teenage girls after my former wife passed suddenly 18 months ago.

Alcoholic, smoker, gambler with possible depression and struggling to make ends meet.

Hoping to get to Doc and discuss my options.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

CJ

Re: 1st step today

Recognising you need the help is the first step @CJCM  well done!

Re: 1st step today

Thats a lot on your plate. @CJCM

Grieving for your wife.

Caring for teen girls can be a handful.

Things must have gotten way out of control for your friend to get you locked up.

Have a friend who did prison chaplaincy.

People can turn their lives around.

Sometimes it is hard to cut with old ties, behaviours and people that lead us astray ...

Some people have found AA helpful.

Keep looking and keep trying.

Those girls do not need a perfect father.  Nobody does.

Do your best.

Re: 1st step today

I echo what others have mentioned here @CJCM - the fact that you are reaching out is the first step.

It seems like you have been faced with a lot of challenging situations, with perhaps means alcohol is there to numb the pain.

I admire you for your strength in coming forward. I hope you will find the help you deserve.

Perhaps a visit to the GP is your first step?

Re: 1st step today

Hi there @CJCM

Welcome to the forums. It's great that you found us and have reached out and shared your story. I can understand your struggle, it must be so hard having your wife not around anymore. Raising kids is hard with a partner so doing it on your own is extra challenging.

A GP visit is the best start. They can refer you to any specialist care they think may help as well as your local support groups.

Looking forward to seeing you around!

Hanami
