I believe SANE communicates quite well.

I like that we are kept up to date with events inside and outside the forums

Re: How SANE Communicates

There are several ways that SANE communicates that can be better:

  • Often news is put in our 'Forums News and Updates' section - a section that is not often visited by many and thus it is not seen.
  • When events are mentioned in the Lived Experience or Carer's sections, they are often overtaken by any new threads started. It would be good if they could be kept at the top for a time just as the Mental Health week thread has been done for October.
  • The events advertised towards the bottom of the home page are not updated regularly - sometime it is several months after an 'event' has happened that it remains on that page. Once an event is over then the next one should be udated straight away.
  • There are also often threads featured many, many times. Surely with the multitude of threads there could be a more concerted effort to feature different threads. For example: 'Daily Check In Space' has been featured on the carer's side for an eternity.
  • There is a very deficient system when members 'Report a Post'. Sometimes this can be when a member is in crisis and sometimes it is a breach of a guideline - and although the reporter does not need to know the action taken, I believe SANE has a duty of care to at least check in with the reporter. Sometimes an email is sent to acknowledge it is being dealt with, and other times there is nothing. SANE needs to streamline this response and make it essential for those reporting posts to be communicated with.
  • I don't believe SANE communicates changes well - or at all at times. This is particularly relevant when we have new structures in management of the forums and/or new areas added. Some recent examples are the long time vacancy of a Community Manager and the introduction of Peer Guides. It is great we now have both but a little more 'introducing' to the community would have been great. I would have liked the Peer Guides in particular to be introduced by giving a bigger overview of their journey and role on the forum as well as each once introducing themselves ie. why they have undertaken this program, their areas of interest, etc. This also should have been pinned to the top of the recent threads list for a time so everyone was able to see it.
  • As a CG, there is no communication presently from anyone in regards to this role. I personally am left wondering where this program is going and what role we now have to play at SANE. I used to have the best support from a PSW (who sadly left) but have had no communication for months, from anyone. It seems there has been so much put into other programs and the Community Guides have been left at the bottom. This is really disappointing, especially as so many of us have given up so much time to fulfil this role ....over a long period of time.
  • The last one is a big one - communication within the forums. This seems to be a 'pick and choose' lotto at present. Some threads get alot of responses from PSWs, PGs, CL, etc. and some none. There are even times when those aforementioned have been tagged that they do not respond. Some questions for SANE - what processes do you have in place to make this equitable? what processes do you have in place to make sure those that need support are getting it? what processes do you have in place to make sure posts/tags are responded to? and what processes do you have in place to communicate these to the community?

I agree with @Zoe7 message

  • another thing I am finding is that nearly always a member is in the background waiting to be tagged , finding that if I tag a member who has not been around , they tag me nearly straight away 😁, I find this is interesting

Re: How SANE Communicates

Thanks @Shaz51 , this is one of our co-design discussion threads from earlier in the year.  I believe we've incorporated this feedback into the summary document that we've provided for sense-checking here: Co-Design Checkpoint: Please Review Our Discussion... - SANE Forums

It would be great if you could have a look over those documents and ensure that we've captured all the feedback accurately, as we're about to start scheduling improvement projects to work on these for the coming year.

The points about the Community Guide programme and more consistency in replies on the forums have definitely been heard.
