Re: First day or EMDR & i have lost a pet feel so devastated

Hi @Misty7 💞

Firstly, I am so sorry to read the news of the loss of a beloved pet. 💔 They become a part of our family don't they?  And the loss truly hurts, just as the loss of a family member would.

This on top of what you are now going thru with your first day of EMDR, I can well imagine how upset and emotional you would be feeling.

I have gone through EMDR for my CPTSD and know it really brings out the emotions.  I hope you have told your therapist of the loss of your pet. I'm sure they will take extra care to ensure you are okay after each session. My therapist would keep in touch out of hours as well. She was great and I really appreciated the extra care when she knew I was struggling the most.

When is your next session? Do you have someone there with you to make sure you are okay? Sorry, I'm not familiar with your personal situation.

@Misty7 condolences and commiserations on your loss. I lost my cat several weeks ago. And am currently procrastinating restarting EMDR - it's a very challenging process and I agree with @Emelia8 you need good support from your psychologist.

Do allow yourself to grieve, to grieve both for your lost companion and for the child or person you were when you experienced the trauma. It may be a physical as well as mental process. Nurture yourself through it, and draw on friends, family and the forum for support

Thankyou so much for your support. I texted my psychologist and she responded even though she's not meant to. You are right the emotions are very strong. Much stronger than i thought they would be. I cannot stop been sad and crying. Many blessings to you.

Thankyou so much Dimity. Sorry you lost your cat it's not easy at all. I am much more emotional and can't stop crying. It's hard to calm down. I messaged my psychologist even though she's not meant to help outside of appointments. Thankyou again for your support.

Thankyou for your reply. It was a fish that was left behind from the previous owner of the house. It was a beautiful adorable large goldfish that lived in a pond. Miss her so much. She had a big personailty and was playful. I will stop now the waterworks are back. Thanks for your support.

Thank you for taking the time to reply @Misty7 😊

I'm glad your psychologist responded to your text. It's the responsible thing to do, even if not exactly encouraged by some. Mine told me to reach out if I needed to, which I did.

Sorry about your goldfish. They are such serene creatures, fish. I can well understand why you are missing them so much.

And with the heightened emotions that are brought out with the EMDR, your sadness and tears are probably more extreme than they would normally be for the loss of "Goldie". Do you think you may consider getting another fish? It may be nice💕. Having another living thing to concentrate on and care for is good for us.

I hope your up regulated nervous system settles down for you soon.

Thanks Emilia, yes those emotions are more intense and more painful than i thought they would be. I was thinking to get another one, but i will think about it. I think fish require a lot of work and specific conditions i could be wrong. Goldie was left by the previous owner of the house. She was in a large terracotta pot with a fountain pump and plants.
