Safe Havens closing - sad news

Safe Havens closing - sad news

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-06-13/safe-haven-mental-health-clinics-close-northern-nsw/106779366

So sorry to see this.

I had been heartened by Safe Havens as a recent initiative.  The set up and dismantling costs are ridiculous. Such a waste of resources and LOSS to the mental health field.

I dont want to even call it a system, anymore, as it is too fragmented.

Government and the state and federal Health departments need more stability in co-ordinating and regulating the massive range of services.  Innovation is one thing, but the complexity and rebranding is putting stress on even diligent competent researchers and professionals in the field, let alone the vulnerable in our communities.

While sad that these services are closing it is not all safe havens. From my quick read these additional ones were set up to support the flood relief

glad it’s not all cause I’ve used my local one a few times

It is like that. And the various levels of government fail to communicate with each other about what they are doing and/or plan to do
