[edited by moderator]: successful trials with schizophrenics

I hope this post is allowed @moderator . It's often hard to talk about the serious side effects and significant gap in life expectancy for people with psychotic illnesses. This post mentions both weight gain and a named medication.

The ABC has just reported on successful trials with a medication for weight gain in schizophrenia. It may apply to other people also taking antipsychotics.

And thanks to SANE ambassador Evan for your advocacy.

That was really interesting @Dimity !

Thanks for sharing. Hopefully it may get on the PBS for those affected

Re: [edited by moderator]: successful trials with schizophrenics

If you can find the right doctor to prescribe it, anyone wanting to lose weight could go on. They just have to pay a fortune to get it, and that’s if they can get it because there is often a huge shortage of it because there has been such a huge increase in the demand for it because people wanting to lose the weight want it. Making it extremely difficult for those who have diabetes and genuinely need it to survive.

And then look at the hundreds of thousands of other people with other mental health diagnoses prescribed antipsychotic and depressants who also stack on the weight. Another one of them shitty situations where your diagnosis determines how much you pay for your medication. Even if it is life saving for you. Nope sorry, cause you don’t have them 4 letters on your diagnosis list you can pay 4x the amount for your medication that enables you to function every day.
