Re: ECT

Dear Loopy,

I didn't find any offence in anything you said! I just wondered about the chage to the Broncos logo from the previous skeletal looking character - that's all I was referring to.

I love your posts. I can see you are very open about sharing your own journey, and far more publicly that the rest of us probably ever will. I take my hat off to you sir. You are also very kind and encouraging. So please don't be apologising to me. Smiley Happy (and the emotions button is back from being on strike!)

Take care!

Kind regards,

Kristin

Re: ECT

Hi Kenny,

Thanks for explaining that. I guess my preconceptions about ECT were shaped by One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, sounds like yours may have been similar.

Take care.

Kind regards,

Kristin

Re: ECT

Kristin,  I thought that rather than having an ugly morbit logo I went with my ARL team, Up the Broncos.

I do my best under the situation and I really hope that some of my posts make someone smile. This is an absolutely super dicussion forum, and I love it. One sad thing is we will never get to see the faces or talk to those with whom we converse.

Re: Changing Minds

Thanks so much Kenny66, really appreciate you sharing your views on your experiences at Liverpool.  Have spoken to a number more people in the past two days who strongly agreed with you that the program was not stigmatising and provided great and real insights.  Looking forward to watching the final episode on iview.  Thank you!

Re: Changing Minds

If some people found changing Minds 'stigmatising' then I wonder if they want to deny the rrality and seriousness of mental illness for those worst affected? Mental health isnt t just about mindfulness and posters with butterflies on unfortunatley!  The program was not just accurate from my experinece of psych units it was really moving too. Good on the ABC for this show.

Re: Changing Minds

your so right morningstar. It is more than the touchy feely phrases and some nice sounding practices in vogue at the time.

The first time some of my friends visited me in the clinic they were absolutely shocked. They had no idea of the complexity of mental illness and the level of expertise and resources required to treat it.

Hopefully the viewers watching the ABC got the same impression. I thought the epilogue was great, sensitive and ever so slightly euphoric.

Re: Changing Minds

I'm finally watching episode 3 right now.  Part of my job includes working inside a mental health ward and I've enjoyed watching another view.  I've also found myself watching and thinking gee, I wonder if that's how I behave lol.

Re: Changing Minds

@Former-Member  personally I think it makes no difference to the way people will think.  I've spoken to some people who found themselves wanting to ask more questions and others who decided they were really actors playing a role.  I think it's been a great series.

Re: Changing Minds

Did anyone find it brought up major issues at all? I cried so much watching it, I found Sandra's situation so moving and while never having been quite as disorientated as her I related to her irritability, the inability to concentrate, the frustration. Patrick too, I cried - totally get the impulse buys, the quest like feeling (I spend hours on eBay) etc. plus it made me realise I am in the middle of a manic episode.

Re: Changing Minds

I cried at the closing credits seeing how their progress post filming.  It brought up thoughts for me about how I behave and react.
