@PeppyPatti i am fortunate I was taught to use computers from a very young age, because my father worked in IT. I don't write computer programming myself, but I can read a little of it.
I can imagine that it would be very hard to learn for anyone without a naturally sequential-logical thinking pattern or high attention to detail.
Where as I was not great at subjects at school where you had to remember dates of events or exact quotes from books. I cannot remember those details from memory very well at all! English and History exams were difficult for me. But I could do open-book or at-home essays or exams fine, so long as I could look up the exact details.

It is sad to hear that father thought his life was a failure because his children had MH challenges. It shows he cared for them, but it is sad he felt that meant failure.
@TAB database management as an external contractor... $250/pa sounds quite plausible if they are experienced. I have found contractors often charge double the hourly salary rate, but that also includes the fact they do not have sick leave, holiday leave, superannuation, or job security.
IT can pay very well! But it is always changing technology very quickly, and can be a lot of work to keep up with the latest changes and security. 🥴
