Talking through trauma and PTSD

Social anxiety and complex ptsd

Re: Social anxiety and complex ptsd

@Stitch1

I also have social anxiety and CPTSD. I can’t say I had the same experiences as you but similarly for a year I wasn’t able to live my house. This happened to me twice, once 10 years ago and another time a few years ago.

I just got gradually too overwhelmed by things. It used to be ‘normal’ stresses like xyz needs to be tommo then evolving to having anxiety when checking emails then opening the office door then getting out of bed , etc.

Honestly it was the hardest time of my life. The simplest thing alike brushing my teeth was hard.

What helped is not thinking about the big picture but focusing on easier accomplishments. It may sound silly but for two weeks I just tried to commit to taking a shower and brushing my teeth everyday. Then I’ll call a helpline or my psych that week that I did it.

During this whole time, the hardest thing was to be kind to myself as I was picking myself back up slowly.

When I felt ready to push myself a bit more, I chose another easy task. Checked in with mental health team. Sometimes I took a break from it and just relaxed into something I really loved doing.

Just focus on the smallest of steps. It took me about a year to feel comfortable in a going into workplace but I still struggled. Though it was a win that I could even stand in the building compared to where I was before. Celebrate these wins along the way. I would suggest looking for volunteer work that you like when the time comes. It helped me transition to work.

Thank you for your input I appreciate it, I was thinking about the volunteer thing as a step before getting a job. So thank you for confirming its a.good choice to do.

No worries 🙂

Also it took me at least years to feel arguably okay with working again. So definitely take your time to ease back into what ever work schedule that you’ll like.

Full time work is a common misconception of success.

My view of success is trying to feel on an average week consistently MEH, 5 out of 10. That looks like casual work, 3 days of work across each week and a really messy room atm.

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it alot. Some days it just feels so overwhelming and never ending. I'll take 1 day at a time. Do you do EMDR? Is it worth it if so? I'm worried it's just gonna make things worse.
