Re: Yarning for community

Opening up access to the Yarning Space

Hi Yarning Space members

Until now, this subcommunity has been a proof-of-concept project which means we haven't advertised it publicly and to join as you know - potential members have to sign up to the SANE forums and then request access which is a bit slow and convoluted.

We'd like to remove that barrier soon, and start to gently promote the Yarning Space so that more early-yarners can come and join in, and then also participate in the ongoing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander led-design and develpoment of this community.

We have formed an Indigenous Governance Group which is Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members only who are the governing group for this Yarning Space subforum and how it develops, and through that group and partnerships with Aboriginal-governed organisations like Thirrili, WellMob and others we will also ensure data custodianship and oversight of this space along with all social and emotional wellbeing service delivery across SANE's services has strong ongoing community codesign and governance.

Please let me know your thoughts or any concerns on the barriers to accessing this space being removed, and the potential for that to increase the membership a bit, so we have more members yarning in here and helping design how the space should function.

Thanks and @tyme if you could please tag all members of this space in for me?

Hi, I think removing the barriers is a great idea. It would be great to see these hubs being a lot more active. I know @ArraDreaming has tried to encourage people to get involved here and I think they kind of gave up after a while. It’s a shame

Re: Yarning for community

Hi Everyone

It's been a whilst since I've been on the community. I'm finding the cold Brissie weather a bit of a downer ( definitely a summer ☀️ gal). And there's been so much rain here lately. A friend in NSW has been heavily impacted by flooding. I hope everyone is doing ok.

Re: Yarning for community

@oaktree I haven’t given up and I never will I am still here strong as ever

I am ok with this space going public and shared far and wide @rachsaneceo
Is there a way we can spread the news of our NAIDOC week events

Re: Yarning for community

Hi everyone who may be new!
Please come and say hi on this thread and tell us
a bit about yourself and what country you are from/and or on, what helps your social and emotional wellbeing? 🖤

I will reintroduce myself again to get started

I am Arradreaming.
I am Arrernte from Mparntwe living on Wadawurrung Country
Im doing a lot of work to find out what mob my Mum belonged to as well, theres a very complex history. I only know the history and connect through dad’s side.
My favourite thing to do if I am having a hard time is go for a walk with my family, we have a spot that we go to that you can walk along these red dirt above the beach and then go down to the sand and walk along the beach under them, its my favourite spot near by.

Re: Yarning for community

Hi @ArraDreaming I am not living on my country but still in NSW.

I am Dharawal - I am saltwater so I like being near the ocean.

I love anything nature -

I love the sound of the waves, the wind in the trees and beautiful birdsong

I love the smell of eucalypts,

I love the feel of salty wind on my face and the earth between my toes

I love the taste of salt on my lips when I visit the beach

I love the sight of trees, the waves, the birds and animals and insects in their habitat and I especially love seeing humpbacks whales breaching

I hope to hear other people's stories here

You can surf in this spot here but I don’t take the kids cause it’s a bit of a climb

But we walk along the main part at the back of the photo along the beach or up on the cliffs there is paths then steps down

and it’s so cool

sitting out the back waiting for a wave and looking at these cliffs above you is awesome

Re: Yarning for community

That looks very beautiful @ArraDreaming it looks like a great place to visit and to go for walks

I love how you got the surfing lingo in there of "sitting out the back" you seem to have been surfing for a long time.

Do you get to see whales down there as they migrate up the coast?

It's very special for me to see the whales migrate past the country on which I now live.

I saw a pod go past the day after dad passed away - it was very emotional for me. I stood for along time in the icy wind watching them from a clifftop

Hey - I just realised you could tag me
