Re: How to get active

Goon on you @Jamc!! The first one is always the hardest.Did you enjoly the workout?  Once you get into it you will be so focused on your form and recovery between sets that you will hardly notice other people.

I found that 9am ish was a good time. Most people have done their pre-work session and nicked off by then. Mums haven't necessarily come in yet and most group classes have a 10am session so the gym is often a bit quiet - but check with the staff they can tell you when it is quiet.

Re: How to get active

It is only a small gym but 9ish could be good on thursday for 1st session it was 2pm only 4to6 people have problem finding it hard my anxiety is getting the better of me to go back trying to get in touch with friend who introduced me to gym to go with her the goes  twice a day most of the time has said she will help

Re: How to get active

Feeling good after gym now my moods are swinging back & Forth

Re: How to get active

Went to the gym today no pamic attacks got help from manager with sets ik hve been set tired but relaxed think gym is best thing 4 me

Re: How to get active

Glad there were no panic attacks @Jamc.

I was usually impressed how well I was treated at the 3 different gyms that I had membership in over 7 years.

Of course we will hit it off better with different people but I found them all committed to doing their best ... regardless whether they had a cert II in rehab or sports degree ... the better qualifications did make a difference at first while I got used to my set of injuries and the best way to manage them ... but after a few years and people move on ... I did well with just a cert II personal trainer consults. ... I started gym at a time when I was a serious physical wreck (and emotional) ... fibromyalgia through the roof ... hands curled and wrists so bad that could barely play the piano at all ... though my mother still kept trying to guilt me ... mind you I did not know that fancy fibromyalgia name at the time ... it was too painful to switch a light switch on and off.

The point I want to make after indulging my little whinge is that even though the people in gyms may be into being upbeat and looking good etc ... they are not necessarily superficial ... when they related to me most were sensitive and to the point ... I never felt unwelcome ... they also gave my son a youth memebersip for about 5 years and looked out for him after I stopped going ... so now when I feel pushed around by somebody I know that it is not "just me" that someone's behaviour is usually a little aggressive and out of order.

Re: How to get active

Thanks for your thoughts today had 2 people talk to me & when they found out it was my first time at gym said going good keep it up

Re: How to get active

I'm beginning to think that everyone is at the gym for reasons of self-care - and so maybe that's why it can be more of a nurturing environment than you'd imagine (competition for space aside...). What do you think, @Appleblossom , @chookmojo , @Jamc ?

Re: How to get active

Maybe not 100% everyone, but I bet the vast majority are @Jamc
