In my own recovery, what I foudn is that pulling a strategy out 'in the moment' is rarely useful. What I mean is that what you do this, it's like someone giving you a tool, and in an emergency, you are expected to pull it out and use it with precision and effectiveness.... do you get my drift?
Do rather than doing this, what I found most helpful is that you take a skill and practice it EVERY DAY, even a few times a day. Then when you need it, you will be so well-versed and practised at it that it actually works in the moment!
I tried this with deep breathing. For years I old me psych that it was useless and it just wasn't for me. But when I learnt about the science behind it, I started practicing it a few times everyday, especially just before going to bed. Then, when a triggering incident occurs, I am able to practice deep breathing, and I find I am able to re-regulate myself.
I hope this makes sense. Sorry for the long explanation.... @Dk5

Have i mentioned already to you that I'm practing mindfulness apps to go to bed each night lately? I really want to be in more control of my mind @Dk5
So I put on a Smiling Mind meditation program depending on how I'm feeling. Sometimes, it's a free relief one, other times, it's a sleep one or fighting cravings to eat.

I was on a 30 day streak with Smiling mind, and then there were a few nights I didn't sleep until after midnight so I lost my streak... oh well. Chin up - gotta try again!
How have things been going for you? @Dk5
Thanks so much for the tag. It's always great to recieve your tags 🙂

Hey @Dk5 ,
Great to hear from you! I'm definitely no expert when it comes to schizophrenia, but in working with people, some people tell me that they acknowledge the voices are there and they give a certain amount of air time to the voices. That is, allowing the voices to sound for 30 mins or so, and then ignore them for the rest of the day.
