Hi, just wondering if I’ve been having a somewhat idiosyncratic symptom all this time or if anyone is familiar with them.. what I call psychotic panic attacks.
They go for 3.5 hours and are full of the most intense bodily-sensation and mind-panic symptoms coupled with unbearable, intense psychotic symptoms (loud, distressing voices in every inanimate and animate object outside and also within my being for the full 3.5 hours, getting louder and louder, more invasive, more horrific whilst I’m struggling to breathe. My vision also changes from feeling miles away to feeling up close to everything, over and over again). I could go into more detail but I really don’t want to think about them too much. They are unbearable. I’ve had them on and off for the past 16 years. They started in hospital when my my mind was under immense stress from florid psychosis and subsequent on/off treatment by antipsychotics. I always had regular panic attacks prior to this hospitalisation but since then the psychotic panic attacks have been my norm. I do take anti-anxiety meds that reduce the time of these panic attacks but they’re still unbearable and recovery is long, painful and rough.
Anyone had anything that resembles these outside of an episode of psychosis? They can happen anywhere, anytime with only generally a minute’s warning?
Thanks all for reading. Oh and I do not need any techniques, I’m fully armed up with all my skills and techniques to prevent, treat and manage!! I haven’t had one in over a year!! Yay. But I’m very careful about triggers.
