Something’s not right

ROUGH update.

ROUGH update.

This thread isn’t very well-written, but I’m tired.

I’m glad to be home. Work is nice, but one of the things I hate about this job is the constant supervision.

It’s not enough to be in the building on time, or logged into your computer on time, you have to be logged into the phone system, with all the systems up and running.

I have been early and started working before 8:30AM, but I was doing e-mails, so I wasn’t logged into my phone system. My manager sent me a message asking why I was late.

It’s one of those things, if you’re five minutes early, you’re late, because you have to set up first.

Today I walked into the building on time, but I had to get a spare key because I left mine at home. To me, it should be that if you’re at work, you came to work on time. Close enough for goodness sake…

In my previous job, I used to leave myself on available status, so I could take internal calls, but I wouldn’t get customer calls, if I needed to follow up on something. But my manager said that no, it’s not clear enough, they need to actually know what you’re doing.

That gets pretty annoying after a while, when you’re doing the right thing, but apparently not.

Last time I mentioned that one of the managers in a different department made the wrong call, but we had to trust their judgement. It turns out I was right. He contacted one of our advisory staff and confirmed it. So ends the battle LOL.

I’m still sober at the moment.

It’s kind of funny, I went to a cafe bar at like 12:30PM. That’s exactly what it sounds like, it’s a cafe and a bar at the same time.

I was going to order alcohol, but when I walked up, the lady goes “are you after a coffee?” It would have been embarrassing to say “no, actually, can I get alcohol instead, in the middle of the day?” So I decided to leave it and get coffee instead. I decided to get a lemon lime bitters from the fridge instead of alcohol at 5:00PM.

I’m 12 days sober at the moment. It’s not going to last, but I’m not hating it. At least I know it’s going to get easier and I’ll be able to go longer and longer without alcohol at all.

I had a case this afternoon that highlighted how impactful customer service can be.

This client’s husband passed away, and she has had a lot of trouble with the paperwork. A couple weeks ago, she called up, upset, because she received a lot of forms to fill out. I said that she only needs to submit a copy of her husband’s will.

Immediately after I got off the phone with her, I realised I was wrong. She wants to make her own account, in which case she needs a HEAP of paperwork: the application form and ID.

She called up today, because she was told she needs to submit an application form. I said yes, there’s no other way around it. I apologised and admitted my mistake, but I was also able to re-assure her that the application form isn’t as scary as it looks.

She asked me how to fill it out, and I said she can call up and ask for me directly, and I’ll talk her through it, to make an account that was exactly the same as her husband’s. It’s really not that hard, it’s just very intimidating.

She seemed to appreciate that, she was just annoyed that it’s such a long process, especially after something so difficult, losing her husband in the first place.

It’s a tough job, it’s an annoying job, but it’s definitely rewarding.

Hey!

You wrote " I’m 12 days sober at the moment. It’s not going to last, but I’m not hating it. At least I know it’s going to get easier and I’ll be able to go longer and longer without alcohol at all."  Its great to hear you say that.  Having a felt sense that you can cope and find alternatives, is the main part of the battle.  Terrific!  I had similar feelings in the past, when dealing with giving up smoking.

Hi @florencefifty

I agree with @Appleblossom  on your achievement of 12 days sober. Way to go! You might find that as you clock up the days that the head starts to clear a bit.
