Re: Forum bugs, specific and general

I am so confused on this ...... :0)

Re: Forum bugs, specific and general

Hi @NikNik

I've discovered inadvertently that it is ridiculously easy to temporarily "break" the @ function by making a typo.

It would seem that:

1. if you use the @ symbol for other purposes and get the "no matches" message, then sometimes it turns itself off

2. if you are trying to use the mention function and make a typo which then doesn't have a match it can turn itself off - even if you go back and correct it when you notice

(You can see this in the last post I made yesterday which used the @ function - you will see I tried at the bottom to use it again & it didn't work)

I am using Google Chrome as my browser if that is of any help to IT on this. I'm happy to help problem solve if IT have questions/want help recreating the problem/user-testing fix(es).

Kind regards,

Kristin

Re: Forum bugs, specific and general

Hi @NikNik

Another issue on the mention function is that it simply doesn't get activated by anything shorter than 3 (or is it 4?) characters - so it can't be used for JT. If the fix on this is with the software supplier (& therefor longer-term) maybe the length of usernames on the forum needs to be minimum of 3(4)?

Kind regards,

Kristin

Re: Forum bugs, specific and general

Hi @kristin,

Thanks for pointing out these issues - we still got a few kinks to iron out, but we're getting there slowly... until new bugs show up, that is. Robot Frustrated

I.T. are aware of the '@' feature not working for names shorting than 2 letters, and it's something that is currently being worked on.

I have logged the other issues that you have also mentioned in previous posts.

Thanks again,

CB

P.S. Nice to 'see' you on here again. Heart

Re: Forum bugs, specific and general

Ok I keep getting flagged as a bad word when I use the term being hard-on myself or something is hard-on ourselves

Bad word is linking hard and on together

Can that be changed I know it can be used inappropriately but I have encountered it quite a few times now in my general posts regarding things that are difficult lol

thanks sane mods your all awesome

Re: Forum bugs, specific and general

Hi @NikNik

I'm going to ask again. Please can we have a list of the bad words? I'm not the only one who has asked for this.

It is one of the things that makes me feel like SANE is treating us like a bunch of little kids. It doesn't have to be anywhere that it must be read. Eg it could be as a click on link from the Community Guidelines, and even have a trigger warning if you think that's appropriate.

Thanks.

Yours in frustration,

Kristin

Re: Forum bugs, specific and general

Hi all,

After looking into the @ mention stuff - there isn't much we can do due to the whole functionality being controlled by the company who created this platform. We can submit "suggestions" but because it's how they have set up their forums to work, there's not much else we can do about it.

Members like JT and Jo are superstars in that they signed up right from the start of the forums 🙂 At that point, we did not have restrictions on the number of characters for usernames nor did we have the @ mention function, so we weren't aware of it's minimum 3 character rule that it has. We changed the sign up process some time ago to ensure members have at least 3 characters in their sign up name.

@kristin I've also had the experience where the @ mention thing turns off. I have tried to explore options to get it fixed, but it's out of our hands. It's an annoying little tick, but I have found 2 ways around it:

1)  Delete the whole "@mention" phrase - don't backspace and leave the @ and try again

Or if all else fails;

2) Cut what I've already written & refresh the page and then paste (not ideal)

The feedback we've received is that they are not actively trying to fix this bug, so we may need to accept it as quirk of the forums.

In terms of bad words, unfortunately I can't post these. We have the same restrictions in using those words, so it won't allow me to post them. The compromise that we have arranged is that we encourage all members to email (team@saneforums.org) words / phrases  that you use which come up as 'bad', that really inhibit your messages.

Thanks @kato for highlighting  the phrase that you use a lot, which frustrates you. We will look into that & have it changed over the next couple of days.

I do apologise for the frustration is causes people. These key phrases and words are important to ensure people are safe and keep the wider community safe. If particularly phrases / words don't assist in that, then we can look at taking them off the list, as we have done before.

It's also going to be a key tool in assisting us to be able extend our hours outside of 5pm - 10pm each night, which we hope is on the cards in the not so distant future.

As mentioned above, I strongly encourage you all to keep track of any words/phrases you have used that don't seem to be relevant to individual and community safety, let us know and we can look at having the list adjusted. This is the best compromise we can come up with and in the short term it might be painful and annoying, but once we get those key phrases that are frustrating people sorted out, the aim is that the list won't be as much of a nuisance as it is at the moment.

I always appreciate that everyone's feedback comes of a place of caring a lot about these Forums (otherwise you would just leave I guess!) So I so thank you for your ongoing commitment and assistance in improving the forums

Thanks,

Nik

Re: Forum bugs, specific and general

@NikNik

When I went into my draft (the one which authentification failed on) I found that the @ symbols were missing on the names I'd used, even though they were there earlier when I typed it (I used the drop down box as usual so I don't make typos). So maybe this is also related to the disappearing post problem?

Re: Forum bugs, specific and general

Hi @NikNik

I just found another bug.

The search function on the forum automatically uses a spelling correction, rather than asking "do you mean?" So I was looking for a post I made months ago about a private joke - the "FITH Avenue Club". FITH is being autocorrected to with so I can't search for it! Very frustrating!

Cheers, K

Re: Forum bugs, specific and general

Hi @NikNik

Me & those bugs again! Either they're ggod at finding me or I'm good at spotting them. 🙂

I have noticed that if the mention function is playing up and I have to reload the page then even if I had typed one name (& selected drop down) when it reloads that bit it is missing the @ symbol from the name.

Kind regards,

Kristin

PS Last night's forum digest has more middle of the night posts, some show the poster's name and others' Hobbit's. I will forward to you. K
